The Worst Disney Movie Ever

Really Disney? Really? How could you stoop this low? Pocahontas is the Disney movie which should never have been made. For one, it is on a whole another level of disrespect toward indiginous communities and it is also portraying history through rose tinted glasses. I understand that this is a movie meant for children. A movie for children can not have the details of the whole truth of the history of Pocahontas. However, the whole premise of the history should not be romanticized in a movie meant for children, let alone any movie at all. If you know the history behind it, you will agree.
Pocahontas was indeed a real person. So was John Smith. Pocahontas was the daughter of a Powhatan chief and lived near the settlement of James Town, Virginia. John Smith was one of the many colonizers who came to pillage and rape North America. This is all true to the movie so far. We all know the Disney movie's story to be that Pocahontas, a beautiful young woman, saves the life of the handsome John Smith and they fall hopelessly in love with each other. However, in reality, this was never the case. Pocahontas was a mere 12 years old when John Smith arrived and was still very much a child. John Smith was in his late 40s. It is known that the event of her saving his life was a myth and did not have much contact with one another at all. They definitely did not have a romantic or consensually sexual relationship.
Long after John Smith left America, another disgusting man named John Rolfe came to the new world and took a liking to the then teenage Pocahontas. He then kidnapped her, took her back to England, raped her, forced her to marry him, and forced her to bear his child.  Soon after she died of smallpox at approximately age 21. Not your typical Disney movie.
Where did Disney get the idea for their movie plot, you may ask? The whole story was made up by John Smith in his memoirs. Him, an old man was fantisizing about having a relationship with a CHILD. That's completely sick.
Pocahontas was a sexually trafficked minor that Disney made a musical children's movie about. Think about that. She was one of the first of many stolen sisters to come. I believe that Pocahontas should be taken out of the Disney princess franchise. The fact that a big corporation is profiting off a victims suffering is sickening. Both the first and second Pocahontas movies show her in love with John Smith and John Rolfe. Those men were predators with sick intentions who did horrible things to her and Disney decided to make it a love story. When the movie was going to be made, many indigenous groups spoke out and protested. Did Disney listen? Of course not. Much to my horror, Disney has a live action Pocahontas movie in the works. That is so disrespectful. Making light of her story makes light of all the indigenous women and girls who have murdered since then. Even today, thousands of indigenous women go missing every year. 4 out of 5 indigenous women are victims of violence. A movie featuring a love story between Charles Manson and one of his victims would never be made. The only difference here is that Pocahontas is brown so no one cares. We need to stand with our stolen sisters and make their voices heard. The live action movie silences them.
